On December 10, 2021, Women for Common Spaces e.V. hosted a discussion on the portrayal of Arab women in German media and its effects on their lives. The event took place at coculture's space and was conducted in both Arabic and German with translation. The program began with an introduction to Women for Common Spaces e.V. and the presentation of issue No. 6 of Female Voices in Exile, featuring contributing writers. This was followed by the screening of Al-Nisāʾ, a black-and-white documentary by Maia Torp Neergaard, filmed on 16mm. The film portrays Syrian women participating in a Berlin-based workshop, reflecting on themes of integration, human rights, and belonging.
The evening concluded with an open discussion featuring Egyptian investigative journalist Basma Mostafa. Known for her reporting on human rights violations, political changes, and gender-based violence in Egypt, Mostafa has been arrested multiple times for her work and has lived in exile in Berlin since 2020.
