Our former space was a modern, minimalist studio located in the vibrant and diverse Gesundbrunnen neighborhood in Mitte, within Lobe Block—a multi-use terrace building designed by renowned architect Arno Brandlhuber. It served as a venue for a variety of events that reflected and engaged with topics central to coculture’s mission, from art exhibitions and artist residencies to music concerts, film screenings, and public talks. We envisioned the space as a reflective spot for social interaction and a hub for creative processes, offering its infrastructure for cultural production initiatives such as project development, coworking, rehearsals, and workshops.
During its time, the space became an active part of Berlin’s cultural scene through its diverse public events and activities, supporting and empowering artists in exile and other underrepresented minorities. We saw the growth of the space as a collective process—alongside the main program designed by coculture’s team, we invited the community to curate events on topics that mattered to them.
Our doors were open to neighbors, collectives, artists, and activists, fostering creative collaborations in an environment free of exclusion or judgment. The space provided a platform for exchange, inspiration, and dialogue, aiming to connect both new and long-standing members of Berlin’s society and offering opportunities to grow, create, and participate in coculture’s activities.
During our long activity we have put together a multitude of events: talks, exhibition, community meetings, jam sessions and much much more! Do you want to learn more and explore our activities? Visit the Past Projects Archive.
The Lab category features emerging project concepts exploring future artistic possibilities. These sketches represent coculture's exploratory spirit, highlighting innovative ideas awaiting development.
While realization isn't guaranteed, this space invites viewers to envision the potential of transformative art and cultural narratives.
During our time at Lobe Block, coculture implemented strict hygiene measures in accordance with Berlin’s regulations to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. These included physical distancing, hand sanitation, mandatory mask-wearing, limited capacity, regular cleaning, and proper ventilation. Contact tracing was also in place to monitor potential infections.
Our former light-filled studio was a barrier-free space that could be rented for events, workshops, co-working sessions, and other formats. It was furnished with desks and sofas, as well as projectors and light and sound equipment. The space consisted of a ground floor (approximately 130 m², including a kitchen) with 5-meter-high ceilings, a 45 m² mezzanine (including a bathroom), and a 20 m² outdoor garden area.
